Description
What BroccoMega is
BroccoMega is a plant based blend built around broccoli sprouts, combining sprout powder with plant
sources of omega fatty acids in a single scoop. It is designed to go into a drink, a smoothie or food
rather than to be taken on its own.
The number worth knowing
A 1997 paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy
of Sciences by Fahey, Zhang and Talalay reported that three day old sprouts of certain broccoli and
cauliflower cultivars contain 10 to 100 times higher levels of glucoraphanin, the compound that converts
to sulforaphane, than the corresponding mature plants. That is the finding as the researchers reported
it, and the paper is linked so you can read it rather than take our word for it.
Why it comes from SunGarden
SunGarden has been growing and distributing sprouted ingredients and fresh sprouts since 1979. The
business is vertically integrated in a way that is unusual in this category: we supply sprouting seed
worldwide, we manufacture the growing and washing equipment much of the industry runs on, and we grow
sprouts ourselves. Seed selection, growing conditions and drying are decisions we make rather than
decisions we inherit from whoever sold us the powder.
What we are not going to tell you
Plenty of pages will tell you what a sprout powder is proven to do for your health. We are not going
to, because the research does not support that kind of promise yet, and after this long in the sprouting
business we know the difference between a compound worth studying and a treatment. This is a food. It is
a concentrated blend made from sprouts grown properly, and that is how we sell it.
