Six steps in one machine
Whether you are pre-sprouting or growing to maturity, the Rota-Tech Rotary Drum turns growing sprouts from an art into a process you can repeat. It washes, sanitizes, rinses, soaks, pre-sprouts and grows seed into finished sprouts without the crop being moved between machines. It is used for commercial production of sprouted seed including alfalfa, broccoli, clover, onion and radish.
Clear quadrants, and why they are worth the money
The drum is available with or without lights, and with optional poly quads for crops that need less light. The clear quadrants let light through for photosynthesis, which gives you healthier looking sprouts and makes hulling easier. They also mean fewer lights and less electricity for the same result, and you can see the crop from any angle without opening anything. On an opaque drum you are working blind between checks.
Installation is a water line and an outlet
Every Rota-Tech Rotary Drum has a stainless steel frame and ships fully assembled. Installation requires a water source and an electrical outlet. There is no field assembly, no frame squaring and no waiting on a millwright.
Why this matters for food safety
Sprouts are grown in warm, wet conditions, which is exactly what a pathogen wants, and the FDA treats them as a covered commodity with its own rules under 21 CFR part 112, subpart M. Equipment that can be taken apart and cleaned properly is not a nice extra in that environment. It is how you pass an inspection and how you keep a recall from ever starting. Growing, washing and sanitizing in the same vessel means the crop is handled less and crosses fewer surfaces, and every one of those surfaces is a place contamination can be introduced.
Seed that runs well in a drum
We supply the seed as well as the equipment. Growers running drums commonly use our alfalfa, broccoli, radish and onion seed, and the broccoli and clover blend for growers selling a mix.
Where it sits in the line
Used together with the TRAC System, the drum handles the sanitize and pre-sprout stages and TRAC grows the crop out, which is how growers reach the higher weekly volumes quoted on the TRAC page. For bean sprouts rather than green sprouts, start with the Sentrex Mung Bean System.
