What it does

The small wash tank cleans and hulls sprouts in one short step, using a combination of air and water to lift the hulls off and carry them away. It is the practical choice for a smaller facility, a second line, or a grower who is not yet moving the volume that justifies a full Wash System but has outgrown doing this by hand in a sink.

Specifications

  • Water capacity: 150 gallons
  • Electrical requirements: 230 volts, single phase
  • Air: independent air supply required

Note the air supply line. The tank needs its own air source, so if you do not already have compressed air in that part of the building, factor that in when you are budgeting.

Why this matters for food safety

Sprouts are grown in warm, wet conditions, which is exactly what a pathogen wants, and the FDA treats them as a covered commodity with its own rules under 21 CFR part 112, subpart M. Equipment that can be taken apart and cleaned properly is not a nice extra in that environment. It is how you pass an inspection and how you keep a recall from ever starting. Scale does not change the rules. A 150 gallon tank sits under the same subpart M expectations as a 750 gallon one, so it still has to be drained, cleaned and documented.

Is this the right size for you?

If you are washing more than a few hundred pounds a day, or you are already running two batches to keep up, the larger Wash System at 24 tons per day is the better long term buy. If you are below that, or you need a dedicated tank for a specialty crop so it never shares equipment with your main line, this is the machine. We would rather talk you into the right one than sell you the bigger one.

Talk to us about your line

Every sprouting operation is laid out differently, so sizing this machine is a conversation, not a catalog lookup. Tell us what you grow, how much of it you move in a week and what the room looks like, and we will tell you which configuration fits. Call (800) 277-7688 or send us a note and we will get back to you with specifications, lead time and installation detail for your situation.
